Niagara Region Hiking / Nature Trails

Ontario, Canada Niagara Falls Canada

Bruce Trail – Canada’s oldest and longest footpath stretches from Queenston Heights Park and ends over 400 miles away in northern Canada. The southern stretch leads across the Niagara Escarpment, past several waterfalls and through wine country.

Haulage Road Trail – This old trucking road (built to help haul away debris from the excavation of the Sir Adam Beck power plant) is now a multi-use trail. Located in the city of Niagara Falls.

Niagara Glen Trails – The Glen Trail drops 200 feet down the Niagara Gorge near the Whirlpool bend. It offers an excellent opportunity to view the natural history of the Falls. There are 9 trails woven together along the river gorge.

Niagara River Recreation Trail – Winding along the entire length of the Niagara River, this massive trail can be used by motorists (along the Niagara Parkway), cyclists or pedestrians.

Welland Canal Parkway Trail – This 12 mile (20 km) multi-use trail hugs the Welland Canal on an old towpath and spans from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario. It joins with the Bruce Trail among others at St. Catharines on Lake Ontario.

New York, USA Niagara Falls USA

Devil’s Hole Rapids and Giant Rock – Begins at Devil’s Hole State Park and is a moderate level 2.5-hour hike. Age recommendation: Ages 8 and over only.

The Finger Lakes Trail – One can follow this massive network of trails from the Niagara Gorge all the way to Ulster County and the Catskills.

Great Gorge Scenic Overlook Hike – Begins at the Trailhead Building (Discovery Center) and is an easy one-hour hike. Age Requirement: None

Upper Great Gorge Hike – Begins at the Trailhead Building (Discovery Center) and follows the Great Gorge Railway Trail for an easy two-hour hike.

Whirlpool Rapids Adventure Hike – Begins at Whirlpool State Park and is a difficult 2-hour hike; including some boulder hopping. Age Requirement: Ages 8 and over only.
