You know, I did try! He just wasn't as cooperative as some I've encountered. Perhaps he's just a little leery of women at this point in the season. So, you'll just have to use the dogwood berries as a point of reference.

I know that it's sadistic, but I love watching them drop to the ground and writhe in agony. There are very few creatures that I feel that way about.

if you get traps, you will probably have to empty them ever morning, but if you have a pond, they make for great fish and frog food.

Empty the traps early before they warm up, that way the beetles are too slow to fly away.
