Last weekend I stayed overnight at the camping area at Lock 15 in Fort Plain. I'd called ahead, and the lock tender warned me there was a construction project in progress at the lock so I might find the lock in a bit of disorder.
When I arrived I found the grounds around the like in near pristine condition. To be sure the construction area did indeed look every bit so, but all the equipment was grouped together to one side of the site. My compliments to the lock tenders.
After setting up my tent I decided to wander around a bit and take some pictures.

Knowing that railroads put nearly all the canals out of business, and that railroads tend to follow flat even terrain I should have expected that the modern day CSX/Amtrak/whatever would be near the canal. I didn't figure it out until about 11pm when a freight train rolled through on tracks laid on the opposite bank. The trains ran all night long.
Anyway, since I was awake I decided to try taking a shot from my tent just to see how it would turn out. I imagine there's a lot I could have done to improve the picture, but that level of skill awaits me in the future.

The next morning broke in a very dense fog. I don't ride in dense fog, as drivers would have too much trouble seeing me on the bike. So I killed some time while the fog burned off. This was taken looking up the river, except that you couldn't see it.

The sun eventually gained the upper hand. I could almost hear the fog saying "I'm melting, melting! Oh, what a world!"
