So.....I got a Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens a few weeks ago and finally got a chance to play around with it briefly today. Looks like I'm gonna have me some fun!

My interest in photography began from experimenting with close-up work, so it made sense for me to make that my first lens purchase. I don't subscribe to the "recommended" order of buying lenses. Big surprise, huh?

There are certainly advantages to both! (FYI - Angel and I have the same Canon compact) Yesterday when I was out in the yard experimenting with the macro lens, there were lots of cute chickadees in the flowering trees. There was no way I could get a decent shot of them with the lens I was using - and had I had the compact strapped to my hip - I could have had a field day with the great zoom capability. I do still love my compact, Angel!

compacts are pretty good for macro as well due to the small sensor and magnification of the lens.
Nothing beats a good 40-60mm macro prime though... especially for portraits. Kelly, wait until you attach an extension tube on that one to get more magnification.
