Waverly Glen Falls

Hi! I am new to this site and I completely love it! I noticed that there was not a listing for this waterfall in Tioga County and I wanted to share it with everyone. These falls are located in Waverly within the town park. Normally there is not much water flowing, but if you hit it in early spring it is a beautiful site! It tends to dry up by the end of summer.This was taken in the beginning of April last year.

This was two weeks after the first photo. If you look closely at the top you can see two little figures (my soon to be step daughters) hopefully that helps give an idea how big this is. I don't think anyone ever really documented it and I searched on the web and could not find much.

This is at lower end of the falls. Within the park there are some picnic areas and two playgrounds. Although the park is small we really enjoy it; also there are some trails. We keep hearing rumors of it eventually becoming a state park but nothing is for sure. I hope you enjoy this and check it out sometime!

Nor did I. I've got today free, Waverly is only about a 35 minute drive for me, and I was looking for a falls to visit.... i think I've found it.

Just did a bit of pre-trip research.. The creek looks to be the outlet of the Waverly Resevoirs. The park land is adjacent to another village-owned property that is classed as "water supply." The border between the two properties is just above the crest of the falls.

The outlet from the upper resevoir flows along the western edge of the lower resevoir wholly on the water supply parcel. It looks like there might be a falls (likely manmade) near where this dumps into the lower resevoir, although I can't really tell from Bing or Google Earth. It could just be some rapids. If the property is accessible, I will see if I can't check this out today as well.

Monday 5/3/10

I started out under cloudy overcast skies that had just produced a nice rain storm through the area, but by the time I got to Waverly, the overcast had cleared out leaving bright, sunny blue skies. Waverly Glen Park really is nice! I didn't explore the trails this time through, but I do plan to go back and do so at some point. The falls were awesome! About 40-50ft high, with plenty of facets in the rock to make for a good climb. They were flowing well, but not as much as in BeckyG's first shot. Getting to the falls is easy -- follow the road into the park all the way to the last parking area, then walk though the playground to the trail on the other side which takes you directly to the falls. There's a trail that climbs the right flank among exposed tree roots which takes you right to the brink of the falls. I chose to climb the falls directly, then took this trail back down.






This little 5ft manmade falls is just downstream of the big falls. There's what looks like a sluiceway in the middle of the creek, with a bridge across the top of it. The water enters from the falls side through three large tubes, flows under the bridge through those tubes and empties to a concrete basin on the other side, then spills over the edge in this photo. From here on down the creek through the park, there's a concrete retaining wall with a chain link fence separating the creek from the park.



The upper property with the resevoirs is off limits... I saw quite a few "No Trespassing" signs along the road as well as in the creek above the falls, so I didn't go any further than these falls.

Amazing! I grew up 20 minutes up the road in Van Etten and had no idea there were waterfalls in Waverly. This will be a great stop for me on my visits back to Spencer.
