I've never encountered a bobcat. I would love to at least hear one nearby. I doubt that my guests would feel the same way. They get pretty nervous about hearing the coyotes at night, and they're always asking about bears.

I think it'd be cool to see either. We had a bear a few houses down but all I got to see was a photo. Coyotes howl across from our house all the time. I love sleeping with the window so I can hear them. I think it's the coolest sound.

We had a bear sighted a few miles from here last summer as well. I always assure the guests that a bear would only be passing through (as long as they keep the outside trash can covered  ). I can't tell you how many times I've awakened in a fog during the night thinking that the TV must have been left on because I hear kids laughing, only to realize that it's the coyotes making their rounds. Unfortunately, we're surrounded by a number of folks who see them as nothing but varments who prey upon their outdoor cats and such (and who don't care whether or not it's the open hunting season), so I haven't heard much from them recently.

Not NY related but PA is close enough. I was surprised at the numbers.
