We could put up a hidden camera and post the videos! But then, it might result in a loss of income...

Mike came out to the office a few minutes ago, after feeding the goldfish in our lily pond, and he said, "Watch out frogs!" He spotted three garter snakes sunning on one of the stones around the pond. I grabbed the camera and went to investigate. While I didn't get any photos that were worthy of Capture Rochester, I did get this one that shows the variety in colors and patterns nicely. I also know where they live now (right under that stone), so I'll be watching for them!

Mike spotted a beautiful milk snake this morning. This is me trying to hold it with one hand and photograph it with the other (without a great deal of success):

I finally asked Mike to take the camera:

Wow, Brenda! You did well to get that first one by yourself!! Good teamwork on the second one! Very cool, but I'm still timid around snakes....
I am strong, because I've been weak.
I am fearless, because I've been afraid.
I am wise, because I've been foolish.

I was such a tomboy when I was little, and my mom never discouraged it. I've been handling snakes most of my life. I was very fortunate to grow up here, knowing that nothing could really hurt me. I feel sorry for my grandnephew who moved to GA when he was too little to have experienced that, and now he has a natural and well-founded fear of them. I bet that my guests would have found it humorous to see me capturing a snake in a dress, but then they're a group of city girls so maybe not. I found the dichotomy amusing.
