Winter Bird Feeding

The unofficial start of winter for me is when I see the first red-bellied woodpecker at my feeders. The lady bird is around today! Yay!
They are really my favorite backyard bird. I love the way they behave and linger for a while at the suet or nut feeders. I enjoy their cautious but defiantly confident personalities. They are very beautiful on top of their delightful personalities!

I rarely see them in warmer months. Does anyone else see them much other than winter?

What are your favorite winter birds?
Any cool or different feeding tricks or food ideas you'd care to share?

I prefer winter because of the lack of birds. My neighbor puts out mass quantities of seed in their feeder that hangs on the tree just below my picture window. All day an orgy of bird from across the 6 nations gathers and chirps up the decibels and it drives me ****ing batty.
I like cardinals. they get in. they get out. They keep their mouths shut.
But also because the contrast of the red against the snow makes for a great shot.

It's really tough for me to choose a favorite winter visitor because I really enjoy them all, for different reasons.
