All the functioning lock gates on the canal replicas, and made of wood. I saw a few in serious disrepair, and I suspect they may possibly remain from when the canal closed in 1924. Canal boat tours do operate on a limited re-watered section of the canal, and the boats 'lock through' just as they did originally. Curiously one of the working canal boats was built in Albany, NY and shipped to Maryland where the two halves were assembled into a working canal boat.

Getting back to the 'geometric' topic - In the town of Seneca Creek, MD, you can find the ruins of the Seneca Creek Stone Cutting Mill. The ruins have a unique feature of a trench or millrace running through the center of the building to power the stone cutting equipment. All that's left are the walls and the trench. I thought a section of the ruins lent itself to the geometric theme, if I may be permitted to interpret liberally...

Congratulations to Philip. . .

for this eye catching perspective taken in our state capital! I've walked that plaza a number of times and don't recall this yellow sculpture. Wondering if it's fairly new....

In any case, I really like the bold curvaceous color coupled with the stark straight lines of the buildings. Excellent perspective and a lovely shot that keeps my eyes moving! Great job!

Thanks for all of the geometric compositions this month. I enjoyed seeing what you came up with!

Great photo. Congrats. I like the contrast of geometry, colors, and directions.

Definitely a nice shot. I'm pretty sure that sculpture has been there for quite some time. As I recall, it's down towards the egg.
