I read in a book about Spirit photographs, and how it propagated the belief in the existence of ghosts (in the traditional sense) despite advances in science. Double exposures were how they were done. These days they wouldn't stand up. Back in the late 1800s they were printed in newspapers as stories, displayed in museums, etc.
Didn't know about the headless ones.

Ha! That's pretty funny... I imagine photography at the time was all a little weird and mysterious....but what were these people thinking of when they posed for these?? hahahaha
