Any time of day is good. If you head in early afternoon, it kind of gives the owls a chance to 'settle' in and get comfortable. By later morning, there's usually a few people in the woods, and are generally kind enough to let you know if any have been spotted.

you have to shake the trees, several will fall out. Just be sure to put them back when you are done photographing.

I saw a few potential owl hiding spots. Some pines with densely packed needles, but didn't see any. There was another guy wandering around the woods too and I asked him if he's had any luck spotting any. He said not for the last week or so. He lives in one of the houses that borders the woods and he walks through there every day.

That sucks Chris...sorry you didn't get to see any.

Mike wouldn't it be "prime" viewing with the warmer weather?

I usually peek in on Weather Underground during the night before I head to Owl Woods. I have found that it is best when there is a mild southerly wind. Now that is not to say that you would be guaranteed to have Owls in the woods after a nice warmer southerly breeze, but the odds would be slightly higher. Boy I wish this migration season was a bit longer. I would think that there will be a few more opportunities to see some Owls, probably until at least mid-April.

Chris, I was just there on Wed Apr 06 and located 4 Saw Whets and 3 Long Eared. It is possible that there were some Owls in there yesterday, but were not easily seen. That is why I say that the best time for people to head through the woods is in the later morning to early afternoon. This is when the woods get a little more busy with people and there is more of a chance that someone has spotted something.
