Has anyone done this? I haven't, but seeing the boats and hearing the screams pass by me as I was photographing last year tempted me. I'm going to try it this year... with a waterproofed camera.

Yes, and its a blast!
You wont be able to take a picture...unless you somehow sneak it. I tried, they slowed the boat down and said to put it away. Also when that water hits you over the bow you want to be holding on!

We did it last summer for Julie's 30th birthday. Each wave of water literally feels like a giant wet blanket of water getting thrown on you!
What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us. ~Henry David Thoreau

That might be worth a try. And Id equate the feeling of getting hit by the water more like getting hit by wet concrete. It literally knocked the wind right out of me. Id do it again in a heartbeat.

Great to hear the descriptions. Now I know I don't want to do it.

From our visit a few weeks back to Whirpool State Park.
The rapids behind the boat are Class VI. The boats are not allowed to enter them and for good reason!
