I agree with the first one. I can't imagine what else it might be. I'm not sure about the second one either, beyond that I do think that it's a thrush. I don't think that it's a Hermit. I'm wondering if it's a Veery?

I take it back about the first one. I went to the Cornell site after I posted the above and I found the attached photo of an adult female (photo 7 of 10): http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Baltimore_Oriole/id

Thanks Brenda! You know as many times as I've looked at that page - I didn't realize there were more photos beyond what you see when first hitting the page. Never knew you could see more by poking buttons! Wondered why there was no photo of a female. Excellent. Thank you!

And #2 certainly does resemble the Veery I see in my book.

Brenda, did you get that oriole feeder you'd been wanting?

Yes, but I think that I missed the window to attract them this year. I haven't tried jelly/jam. The feeder that I was given doesn't have that option. They're nesting nearby though, and he taunts me with his song on a regular basis.

Oh, I see. The orioles here show no interest in the nectar or oranges - they only want jelly. The catbirds love it too. And recently, I even saw a robin enjoying some. I've never known them to land on a feeder!

Only on the nights when the birds and I sit around the campfire and make s'mores.
