My fascination with asylums and abandoned buildings stems from a scary movie/zombie apocalypse fixation.
I've discovered this old [maybe abandoned too]
website on exploring ruins, and they get into some pretty dangerous places. It gave me the idea for my college photography project [while studying in California] that led me to an abandoned house on property owned by a walnut shelling plant. They gave me permission to shoot on two different occasions, resulting in this favorite shot of mine:

Love that photo, Chris! Hope you won't mind if I add that I'm blown away by your talent and maturity at the tender age of 24!

Well as far as I could tell there weren't any crime scenes there.
Among the ominous red hand print there were lots of other splashes of colored paint around the house, but I liked the implications of that one.
I've also been checking out
http://www.opacity.us and really like all of the pictures and information gathered there, definitely using that for future reference.

Are also great sites for resources. And...hopefully someday we can say
http://newyorkinruins.com/ will also be a great dedication and resource to these forgotten places.

I think this is around Washinton, but still cool (nice HDR, not too overdone, but enough to bring out the gritty detail):

This is actually stitched together with SLR stills.
