When I was doing a field study in college, I explored a former Rich Products landfill in LeRoy (I think). Rich makes Cool Whip. Some portions of the landfill (I suspect) was leeching sugars into the groundwater. In spots that were under suspicion for the leeching snails would congregate- by the thousands. Some spots would have a several inch-thick layer of snails under the grass. Crunch crunch crunch! Not all pollution is toxic.
