Canon just announced the [amazon=B001G5ZTZO]SX10[/amazon] which comes out in October It's a little cheaper than the [amazon=B000Q3043Y]S5[/amazon]. It's supposed to be an upgrade, but it does make some compromizes.

According to the Canon site, the SX10 (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contr ... elid=17630) is supposed to be more expensive than the S5 (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contr ... elid=15207), which is what I would expect from an upgrade. It's interesting that Amazon has such different pricing.

One of the things that bugged me about the S5 was the controls layout (especially the power button), the SX10 looks more like what I'm used to and seems to be an improvement (to my taste). I'm also hesitant to buy a 2-year-old camera model unless there's a really good reason to. What kind of "compromises" have you heard of?

yeah the sensor and lens on it are amazing. But I doubt it will sell well with only a 2.5x zoom- that's what most consumers look at.
I hear rumors that the new Oly SLR model will have the same sensor in it (Pany and Oly are partners)- I'm excited!

I have been wanting to upgrade to a new camera and since I am a novice at all this I need some advice. I'm always nervous when spending this much money and any suggestions will be appreciated. Here is a link to what I'm considering http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Digital-12- ... O1MQBS1ZT1
Is this a good deal? Any insight on this camera, ie; controls, ease of use, dependability, durability, etc?
Thanks in advance for any information.
Bill
