Such wonderful images, Kelly...I'm always in awe of your snowflake photos. You make it sound easy...but I've tried and know it's not....you have the knack and talent to produce these. I never get tired of seeing them. :)

I appreciate the encouragement everyone! Champy, I am excited that you're going to try this.

It's been a decent couple of weeks for flakes. The types I like best tend to be the smallest, so I'm again posting a picture that includes a penny for scale. This whole batch was about this size or smaller.

I still like the splash of red I normally use as a backdrop, but I'm experimenting with slate lately. It's nice not to have to deal with missed focus because of the tiny wool fibers. I do miss the color, but so far it's seeming like a great surface to work with and I like the results. The more I read and learn about how the pros do it, the more committed I am to doing it my own "lazy man's" way. ;)

OK I'm back! I'm tired of this horrid winter this year and grabbed my new book "Snowflakes in Photographs" by Bentley that my mother-in-law got me for christmas not knowing I shoot them! I asked if my husband told her to buy it and she said no! So I whipped out my pbase page to show her!

We've had such horrible weather! Today it's almost 50 and will drop to 7 tonight but it's raining not snowing, so nothing to shoot. But the end of the week might be promising. We moved this past nov into our very own house! So exciting and scary and stressful all at the same time so with that and the flooding due to the weather this year I think shooting flakes will help calm me. Of course right now I'm not in the mood for a storm! ha ha! Bad part of the new house is we're now in the village not in the middle of now where. I guess the neighbors will just have to get used to me out in my pjs shooting water drops, snowflakes and flowers!

Congrats on the house and welcome back, my dear!

I see you're shooting with Olympus now. Is there a story you want to share? ;)

Kelly, have you tried a time laps sequence of the flake melting? Not sure if it would worked or if it would be one or the other.
