Here's a company of creepy street photographers who got busted for selling photos of people, without a release, in the creepiest way possible.

Makes me wonder how many people actually get away with stuff like this. Probably quite a few in low profile contests. Sheesh.

Stolen picture wins contest.

So.....perhaps there are some photo releases after all.

(If anyone is reading this and missed all the fun, be sure to go back through the HONY discussion. Matt's head explodes when it's over. :P) If we all buy the book through the link above, NYFalls.com gets a little financial boost and we can call the whole discussion a wash. ;)

This angers me. He acknowledges in the interview that the Amish "don't like" to be photographed. But proceeds to do it anyway. By his own admission he hid behind his long lens. I don't dispute the fact that his images are beautiful and compelling, but in my opinion, he (and others who do the same) have no conscience. Rot in hell.

His work is now on display at the George Eastman House.

Something other people don't photograph + black and white = compelling... art.

While the subject of the Amish is always interesting, yeah, this does border exploitation.
I have had plenty of opportunities to photograph our area's Amish/Mennonites, and did the research and respect their wishes. I ESPECIALLY wouldn't be shilling photos I took if i did.
When photographing temples in Shangrila and Tibet, I researched beforehand what was appropriate and followed through. Easy and respectful.
From what I have read though... Amish are more passive about it than ANTI- rather... it's fine if they happen to be in a photo, but pose, show their faces, faces of their children, is not agreeable.

What concerns me here is profiteering from their images without permission.

I'm bothered that the George Eastman House is promoting it as well.
