I'll be mostly likely ordering the parts in april and build it by may. Letchworth will be my training ground. Maybe by fall I'll be good enough and trust it enough to do exploring. It IS radio line of sight... so I can't fly it up and into places like the Upper havana gorge, but If i were above and had a relay... or I can just fly it above for a better look. I'll look into relay stations. The balloon idea is good... at least for a relay box.

I think we can also do a meetup at letchworth or some safe open area where you can come and try it out... or if I'm too nervous to let anyone fly the big one, I'm working on upgrading my little practice drone into a FPV system with camera view. It's tiny, but still pretty cool to fly.

I'll have the gopro soon. I'm buying a standard adhesive mount. Maybe head mount too. I want to record hike down a linear trail, and either make a fast motion video or take screen grabs for a trail guide. Yeah. it's more work for this site to cover trails in more detail, but i think it would be very helpful for people if we recorded more about the difficult/dangerous hikes. Maybe grimes glen? Who's up for a spring outing?

And how's this for an idea. I'm going to buy the though waterproof housing, some kind of vibration resistant mount, then strap it to a boogie board (I'll have to fashion a rudder to keep it straight). Then some strong fishing line attaching the rod to the board/camera. Someone stays below with the rod, loosens the line. Someone climbs up the falls, releases the board upstream... and we get some HD video of that ****er falling over the falls! Then the person on the ground just reels it in. I'm thinking Holley Falls would be a cool one to try this with. I can also do it in slow mo... i can do 120 FPS at 720P... so that would maybe be slowed down to 60FPS for a good action slowmo... or 480p in 240 FPS.

Matt,
Here is a mount option. I have the cuff and leash. They work well for my FF camera so I would suspect the hero mount is plenty secure. I have been considering the pro clip too.

It sounds like you have a great plan for the hero. The meet up sounds fun too.

Hi Matt, just seeing this topic now. I got the Hero 3+ Black in January, after a friend used it on an island trip we were on last year. He kept it attached to a monopod and always had it handy. The best were the underwater snorkeling videos. However, even with the monopod, the fish scattered from the camera. I'm planning a snorkeling day in April, and I plan to wedge (carefully) my monopod into the rocks and let the video go for a while in hopes that the fish will swim by the wide field.

The monopod I have is this:

For now, I'm mostly using the camera to shoot "in your face" videos in slow motion of my new puppy. LOL. Like these:

Make sure to switch those to HD, however the youtube versions aren't very good quality.

My cousin breeds belgian shepherds and uses a series of GoPros on the dogs, the handlers and his quadcopter, to capture attacks. Pretty cool. I recently suggested to my travel package client that he supply GoPros to his tour leaders to record time lapses of some of the adventure trips.

I also bought two spare batteries/charger from Amazon:

Make sure you download the GoPro App for your smart phone, it's a great way to control the camera.

Looking forward to more discussion/ideas on this camera. Andy

I just opened the package and was impressed with the number of tidbits included. the camera is super tiny too.
I briefly tried out the app, but I am not too impressed with the lag and fuzzy quality. I guess I'm spoiled by my OMD which has a wifi app and the quality is superb with no lag. So, I ordered a touch screen bacpac and a set of lens caps/doors (don't know why these weren't included to begin with). I hope to just use it as a pocket shooter and video recorder, because it's just way smaller than anything else out there.
My boss competes in cycling races. We are going to strap it to the handlebars for one of his races.
I'm going to use a headstrap on the jetski this summer. I hope t doesn't fly off.
