Food of China (2012)

Back in the old town of Lijiang, we eat at a canal-side noodle place. The lighting is strong yellow and green here.

Shrimp on a stick (to be grilled to order). Seafood disgusts me. How does one eat the whole shrimp?

I order up two yak-on-a-sticks and one black-goat-on-a-stick


Of course, it's all fried in the same oil used for the shrimp, bugs, and whatever else.

In every corner of the old town, people just set up a little cooking station and sell snacks


You can buy flavored yak yogurt everywhere.


There's quite a bit of international food, such as this strawberry crepe.


One of my favorite dishes was this clay pot casserole


It is a mix of pork, veggies, pickles, and potatoes over roasted rice.


You get a cup of chicken soup to pour on top.

After a pretty traumatic journey through meat section of the public market in Lijiang, a quick meal:

We located a popular Tibetan lounge and ordered American/Tibetan fusion. All of it was excellent, especially the soup.
