So beautiful that I would like to order the 2013 calendar right now!
Oh what I would give to see a redheaded woodpecker in the flesh.

Great shots for sure...I've never seen a Red Headed Woodpecker either.

...but I have seen lots of little Goslings...about that time to "capture" some on Sodus Bay soon...along with the new "crop" of Cygnets... I love this time of year.

:)

I may be able to arrange that if it continues where it presently is.

It's ok. Baloney bonnets and booties would make it better. ;)

Here's a few shots of a Red Winged Blackbird taken this morning at the 1000 acre swamp.
Usually I try to get real close for my bird pics but this guy kept a distance which made me think more about the composition as I processed the shots.
The first shot is a bit out of focus and I usually toss a shot away without a second thought when the focus is off but for some reason I still found the shot appealing. It could be I'm nuts.

I've always admired everyone's photos of birds on this site...Joel and Kelly, among others, have posted so many great ones.
Now that I have a telephoto lens, I'm getting a little braver about showing off my photos. I'm still not really happy with the clarity....it takes a lot of patience and a little luck to get those good clear shots.
I'm usually shooting spontaneously...without tripod or any set up...just grab my camera when I see a bird that needs shooting!

Here are a few I took last weekend on Sodus Bay...Herons, swans, ducks, geese and even Bald Eagles are around right now...and I finally found a Red Winged Blackbird sitting still.

And this male Swan was having none of the Heron getting so close to his mate's nest...chased him off with a dramatic "run" at him!

I'm also sticking my lens out the back door a lot lately as the birds are showing up more frequently at the feeder hanging there.
This morning it was a Finch and a Sparrow...playing nice and sharing. A big red Cardinal came by too...but he always flies away when I get close to the door...I'm still hoping to sneak up on him.
