To become truly immortal, a work of art must escape all human limits: logic and common sense will only interfere. But once these barriers are broken, it will enter the realms of childhood visions and dreams.

My fascination with asylums and abandoned buildings stems from a scary movie/zombie apocalypse fixation.
I've discovered this old [maybe abandoned too] website on exploring ruins, and they get into some pretty dangerous places. It gave me the idea for my college photography project [while studying in California] that led me to an abandoned house on property owned by a walnut shelling plant. They gave me permission to shoot on two different occasions, resulting in this favorite shot of mine:

Love that photo, Chris! Hope you won't mind if I add that I'm blown away by your talent and maturity at the tender age of 24!

Well as far as I could tell there weren't any crime scenes there.
Among the ominous red hand print there were lots of other splashes of colored paint around the house, but I liked the implications of that one.
I've also been checking out http://www.opacity.us and really like all of the pictures and information gathered there, definitely using that for future reference.

Are also great sites for resources. And...hopefully someday we can say http://newyorkinruins.com/ will also be a great dedication and resource to these forgotten places.

I think this is around Washinton, but still cool (nice HDR, not too overdone, but enough to bring out the gritty detail):
