This weekend

Postby ApproachingLight » Fri Sep 30, 2011 10:47 am

Saturday....cold
Sunday...cold

But we have had rain all week. There is a 90% chance of rain Saturday and 70% chance on Sunday. That means water, which means flow, which means we should get out and take some pictures. What more can you ask for (except warmer weather)? It's fall, there's water and it's the weekend.

Thinking Keuka, Seneca Lake area. Anyone else heading out?

Ok, so no one is going out this weekend anywhere in New York State to take a waterfall pic?

That's a crying shame!! (violins are heard playing quietly in the background)

  I just realized my Fotosharp rain cover is packed away. Have to find that this weekend as the rainy weather comes in. I hear tell there are waterfalls around these parts (NYC) and I intend to see if I can find 'em.

45 degrees. Oh baby that's cold. But some rain last night again. So some of the less major waterfalls should have some volume. Hope you all get out. david

I have been out three times this week. The overcast has been a big help and the leaves are falling fast around the capital district. Water is alittle high right now in some places maybe by Monday for me.

There is some flow out there today. Be ye nimble, be ye quick.

Must say that if you know this first private falls, i have to i add it has one of the most beautiful approaches i can remember of any falls in Upstate. If you go, it has a personality you will not forget. Long flat shale shelves and wide flat minor cascades that are so beautiful, i had to give credit skyward. Last set is the Keuka-Seneca inlet/outlet falls you all recognize.

Great shots David! From where you were...I can determine which private falls that is...and great shots of it. No posted signs?

Hey Kyle,
There was one at the base hanging across, but really never saw anything else. There is a parking area at the base of the glen that is clearly used by visitors. So i sensed, and from the other comments from this site, that the owner does not object to visitors but for legal purposes they need to protect themselves. Really pretty glen walk!

Someone here mentioned another 30 footer just above the large falls. I scrambled up 100 feet in the rain and there was no way i was going across the 8 inch ledge which was loose shale at the top of the falls, with a 100 foot vertical by 15 foot horizontal sheer drop as my "plan B."

That's the sign I saw and wrote to them...they weren't open to respectful hikers visiting. And the parking you saw is for a farm and/or construction company. You can see the road on Bing maps that leads up to where they store their equipment. Just an FYI. Glad you got to visit it though and great photos.
