Lyon Fire tower
Being the northern most fire tower it was a four hour drive for me. The trail has been changed they added about one mile to the trip (one way) but put the trail on a 8-10 degree incline thus it was a nice hike. Round trip is now about 6.5 to 7 miles vs. the 5 miles in the book. On a clear day you can see the skyscrapers in Montreal, the High Peaks to the south and the St. Lawrence River and Lake Champlain. But not on my day it was overcast and foggy, the tower had about a ¼” of ice one-third of the way up and it started to snow. This was the first tower I didn’t climb as high as allowed due to the ice. When your miles from anywhere you tend to be more cautious. Elevation change is 1790 feet and the summit elevation is 3830 ft, and yes modern technology has found its way up here too.

Nice photos and trip report Jim!
“There’s an inconsequentiality to our lives that living in the wilderness shows up. Mountain are real, they set their limits, they set ours. They expose us, make us vulnerable and strong at the same time. “

Excellent. I love that first shot. Have you every tried doing a 360 panoramic from atop of one of the towers?

Thanks Matt,
I've been playing to make my shots fuller and or give them depth, the 1st one came out good.
As for the 360 most towers don't have a good 360 view, parts of the view will be blocked. Not all towers are accesable to the cabin thus making a 360 near impossible unless you want the tower in it. There has been some, and this one would be one of them except I couldn't see anything.
