Chimney Bluffs SP last weekend

Postby americanhero » Wed Oct 13, 2010 4:41 pm

We did a little bit of road tripping last weekend, heading to the Finger Lakes region for some waterfalls and Watkins Glen.
We also headed to Chimney Bluffs SP. It was on my Must See list for a while and with the nice weather we did the trip on Sunday.
In the last couple of years I saw a lot of interesting rock formations, but nothing with such a nice contrast. I really loved the light colored clay against the blue water.
I also played around a little bit with my camera, waiting for the sunset and got back to the parking lot in totally darkness. :D

Here are some shots I took:

I will visit the area again, that's for sure.

only with my every day lens, Nikkor 16-85. But I was shooting in a very low angle, was almost laying on the ground :D
Next time I will bring my 10-24 lens along with me

Great shots! Love the time of day - well worth the walk back to your car in the dark. :)

Amazing photos! I keep meaning to get there around sunrise/set...just haven't gotten a chance to...love how the fading light paints the bluffs.

thanks

And I learned one thing: never leave home without a headlamp :D
But staying there with a changing light every minute or so was worth the walk back in the dark.
I was hoping for a few more clouds, but they were almost gone around sunset

I think, sunrise could be really interesting, too. You also have the soft light and pastel skies.
It is something I have in mind for the next time. Or maybe some shots with a full moon. I think, with the moon light this will be a simply awesome place.
