I used to use Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), but over the last month I forced myself to leave my comfort zone and I have been using SilkyPix 3, which I find to be a far more powerful tool, with a much better preview function.

I tried shooting in RAW when I went to South Carolina about a month ago. I just use the options I get in Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0. I like the fact that you can adjust the exposure in RAW after you take the picture. However, it seems like the .dng files are larger than .jpg, but they ended up as a 12 by 8 inch image instead of a much larger 41 by 27 inch image when I use the FINE option. Am I doing something wrong?
I also updated my website with new pictures from South Carolina, Georgia and Virginia.

I think Elements uses Adobe Camera RAW/ Make sure you have the latest version installed (it's a free upgrade from Adobe.com)
Inches isn't really a measure of size, it's really the pixel dimensions.
12 by 8 inch image at 300 dpi is the exact same size as a 41 by 27 inch image at 88 dpi.
I'm sure just the DPI is just set more dense when processed as RAW

I use the updated version on Elements 5.o....very helpful for newbies like me correcting exposure and with a recovery bar.

I rarely shoot raw, but when I do I use either the nikon capture one software or ACR

I just bought Lightroom and have been using that. Before that I rarely shot in RAW.
I have to say, the ability to make adjustments like WB, ect., and then sync it to other similar images is amazing. I know when I get a handle on it my processing time is going to go way down!

I just got Elements 6, I took a few raw shots and played with them. Elements 6 is way better than Photoshop 7. Will see where this takes me. Any feed back or tips for Elements 6 would be helpfull.

when sharpening in Adobe Camera Raw, zoom to 100% and hold down the ALT key when you make adjustments. It will change the display so you can actually see the emphasis the software is placing on the lines.

As much as a love Silkypix, I have been recently forced to use Adobe Camera Raw (in CS4), because my new camera's RAW files aren't supported by SP yet.
(Adobe forces you to upgrade to CS4 to support the new versions of ACR. )

I like the tools with ACR, but the preview image lacks sharpness. The sharpness controls barely do anything, and the interface just seems so clunky. The results are bland compared to my silkypix output.

Silkypix pro is due to be announced next month. I can't wait!

I also tried Capture One and found it to be very similar to Silkypix (it seemed to be more advanced). It doesn't support my new RAW files either.

Over the last few days I have forced myself to use Capture One Pro. I'm beginning to love it. It love how customizable it is. The interface is excellent. The pre-defined styles are nice. Workflow with photoshop is convenient.
