Back in Chengdu... a quick morning breakfast at....

Image

Porridge with... a chunk of rotten egg (it's supposed to be in there)
Image

Sweet bread (just like a doughnut)

Just an egg

Egg and sausage samwich
Image

Hashbrown sticks

A bakery on the corner near my hotel was a great place for me to get some lunch each day.
This pizza-like thing is filled with a layer of pork floss (shredded dried pork), and then topped with a sweet glaze.
Image

This bun was topped with onions, ham and cheese and a sweet glaze.

A delicious beef rice bowl. I didn't know at the time but those strips of meat are cow stomach... I didn't mind... cut as strips is not as gross as logn sheets of it. There's also a brown egg... I didn't eat that.

The Coca-Cola Company has almost all of its products in China.

Can't resist trying the fried corn every chance I get.
Image

Ultra-spicy beef and peppers. This is when I learned, after struggling to eat this dish, I'm really not supposed to eat the read chilies.
Image

Pork soup. that veggie is kind of like a melon.
Image

Chicken and chilli paste. It's tough to get chicken that isn't hacked with the bone in.

More food of Chengdu (a lot of the restaurants had bad lighting and often I didn't bring my SLR. My pocket Canon is horrible at white balance).

Fried green beans. A favorite from previous years.
Image

Spicy Beef, peppers, and onions. This was amazing, but the sichuan peppercorns numbed my mouth for about an hour after.
Image

Pork and veggies. Another favorite from last year. Delicious.
Image

Pork and peppers.
Image

Tried some traditional Chengdu clay pot food.
Black chicken... a lot of bones.
Image

Spicy beef stew. Excellent.
Image

Rice, sweet potatoes, pickles
Image

Duck soup on the lower left.

Another traditional Chengdu meal: Cold Pot....
Served cold, a huge pot of oil... which I witness being reused... and sure has been reused for days... is stuffed with skewers of cold meats, veggies and seafood. I wasn't a huge fan of this at all and just assumed I would get sick from it. I didn't. The noodles and dumplings saved the meal for me.
Image

Image

Some melon juice (I had this before)
Image

A dessert... Some rice gel in a sweet sauce
Image

Cold noodles with minced pork.... There's spicy chili sauce under the noodles. Actually very good.
Image

Dumplings.... these had a wrapping very much like ravioli. Pork filling. Chili sauce underneath. These were outstanding.

So, what were the insects? Grasshoppers?

I'd love to learn how to make that corn. You're right, it would be a huge hit over here.

Most of the food looks really good.
