knowing China, the meat in that sammy was probably from the ass of something.

Kyle, maybe the lens is making them look larger than they were. Food was ample for the most part, but nothing by our standards. I usually ate with people. chopsticks slowing things down + rice, can make a small meal feel filling. I was ok with not eating enough in a meal, because I was opening up to street food and wanted to try more and more of it.

Hmm, perhaps not what I meant...there seems to be multiple courses for each meal.

oh... yeah... that's normal. Order as much as you can, and eat family style. Blend together, eat separately. Doesn't seem to matter. I have seen groups of people fill their tables completely with a selection of dishes, so there's not room for for the rice bowls.

Before a full day hiking and horseback riding in Shangrila, a room service breakfast of pork noodles, pickles, milk, rice porridge, stuffed buns and an egg.

The next day, before grabbing the bus back to Shangrila, another tibetan restaruant

Look delicious?
Image

Yak Bone Marrow... one bite... and that's all i needed to know this was going to be the grossest thing I ate in china. Slurp Slurp.
Image

These rolls are yak cheese, rolled up in eggs, and fried in yak butter. The flavor is powerfully tangy... very delicious and filling. Loved them.
Image

Tibetan bread. It's buckwheat. The dip is sweet yak yogurt, a tangy frosting, and really made the dish.

Back in the old town of Lijiang, we eat at a canal-side noodle place. The lighting is strong yellow and green here.

I row of street vendors in the Lijiang Old Town...
Selling the fried dough (from the previous post); boiled corn; walnut cakes

Some Yunnan dish, i forget what it is.

Glutenous rice balls (see previous post)

Fried chicken feet

Sweet beans and hot chilies over sticky rice

Shrimp on a stick (to be grilled to order). Seafood disgusts me. How does one eat the whole shrimp?
Image

Beetle larvae on a stick (to be grilled to order).
Image

Sweet rice cakes. The drawings are actually the pictographic Dongba writing system of the naxi people.

Fried Tofu covered in chili powder
Image

Fried bantam eggs on a stick
Image

I order up two yak-on-a-sticks and one black-goat-on-a-stick
Image

Of course, it's all fried in the same oil used for the shrimp, bugs, and whatever else.

In every corner of the old town, people just set up a little cooking station and sell snacks
Image

You can buy flavored yak yogurt everywhere.
Image

There's quite a bit of international food, such as this strawberry crepe.
Image

One of my favorite dishes was this clay pot casserole
Image

It is a mix of pork, veggies, pickles, and potatoes over roasted rice.
Image

You get a cup of chicken soup to pour on top.

Delicous
