I met a couple from Malaysia who spoke English and somehow guessed I was from NY. The husband snapped this shot of me. (Yeah, I look horrible; haven't kept food down in days). My coat is strapped to my bag, which carries an extra hoodie I brought for Joni, who insisted on wearing her school uniform. Girls.

Joni's looking pretty good, but she is getting sick at this point. After this we hike for a long time, she's feeling pretty bad... find the next bus and get on it to head to the tourist center so she can be out of the cold and we could get some juice to drink. She puked for a while and was okay... her appetite was back by the end of the day.
Next up, we take a bus to some random stop... get out and just start walking up... passing a few Tibetan villages along the way. The sun is low, but enough light to get some decent shots... the issue is... in the mountains here sun is hot when you are in it, but the shade is ice cold. So, walking around in the day, in the open valley, can be exhausting if you dress to warm. I got sunburn on my nose and ears the first day. Then in the shady areas at the same time, you have to put on a coat for sure. As the sun goes down the valley is all shade and ice cold. Night usually brings snow.

Here's the view from the first village we came across. Chinese flags are abundant since it was around the National Day holiday (just like our July 4th).
[img2]http://www.nyfalls.com/posts/china2/251.jpg[/img2]
Prayer flags are everywhere, and in the valley wind they are constantly juggled about in the wind. It was late, and there wasn't much in the way of traffic or people, and all we could hear is the flapping of thousands of these flags.

Each little neighborhood has these white offering shrines. People come, pray and leave a cash offerings. I couldn't get a decent answer on where this money goes. If the owner collects it, then it is a nice racket. A lot of the money appears to have been there for a while, but in the mountains of China, everything ages quickly.

In case you forget the sutra, it's written on a stone here for you.

And prayer flags span out from the top.

The homes here have some very nice gardens. Here's a nice handheld macro.

This is a small market and restaurant (and probably also a home).
