Outside of Saratoga Fish Creek flows through the town of Victory. In the town sits a huge empty factory building. The property also has a millrace that leads up to some of the buildings on the property, but I don't think water power was used in the plant for quite some time. I think the mill has been empty for about 15 or 20 years. At one point a developer was going to turn it into apartments, but for some reason it didn't work out. There are several smaller brick buildings on the property as well. The millrace leads up to one of the smaller buildings so I take a chance and say that used to be the powerhouse.

This is what the building looks like today.

The dam that creates the millrace for the site is across the street from the factory building. A fence surrounds it with more than a few 'No Trespassing' signs on the fence. I took this through the fence. The Battenkill flows off to the left; the millrace continues out of the picture to the right.

The empty building reflected in the millrace. I remember when the factory was a working concern, fabricating cardboard boxes of all types.

It always amazes me how large complexes like that, especially ones that have reduced power costs because of water power, can just go out of business like that. Hopefully we are in for a return to manufacturing in the usa.

Jeduthan,

The last shot is great!

I too am amazed how such successful companies close, but than I am reminded of Poor management and greed.
