MOUNT MORRIS -- The annual Photographers' Dream Day returns for a 10th year Saturday to The Visitor Center at Mount Morris Dam off of Route 408 south of Mount Morris. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
All levels of photographers, from amateurs to professionals are invited to come and choose from many subjects such as Birds of Prey, People in Costume (Sons of the American Revolution, Mountain Men, Victorian Ladies, Clowns, among others), Old Cars, Horses, Flower Garden with Water Feature, Objects for Close-Up photos, and other interesting subjects. Amherst Museum’s Victorian Dance Society will again be dancing and having a Victorian Picnic between noon and 2 PM.

Ron Walker of Friends With Feathers will be showing his birds from 11 AM to 1 PM. Ron has participated in every Photographer’ Dream Day but this will be his last appearance. He is retiring at the end of June.
Featured this year are two photo seminars. At 10:30 AM, "Creative Composition: Telling Stories with Photographs" by Gordon Brown, a former Kodak Ambassador, will emphasize using techniques that illustrate ideas and emotions in photography. The talk will describe in detail how each of the included photographs were made and the reasoning behind making them. Gary and Phyllis Thompson of Image City in Rochester will present a second seminar, "Images of the American Southwest," at 2 PM. Emphasis will be on "near and far relationships" as they relate to landscape photography of the American Southwest. The Thompsons will also show and discuss how to work with the harsh light of the southwest and provide tips for producing images that communicate mood and feelings.
A nature hike with June Summers of the Audubon Society is scheduled for 9 AM. At 11 AM, 12:30 PM and 2 PM, Ranger Staff will offer photo walks to the top of the Dam. Note that Dam Tours do not allow picture taking inside the Dam.
In past years the event has attracted photographers from all over Western New York, Pennsylvania and Ontario, Canada. There is no charge for the activities at the Mount Morris Dam and Visitor Center.
This event is presented by the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Canyon Camera Club, and is supported in part by a state Council on the Arts Decentralization Grant administered by the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts. The Canyon Camera Club, organized in 1948, is headquartered in Perry, NY and takes its name from “Grand Canyon of the East,” the nickname of Letchworth State Park. The club is one of 12 clubs from Ontario, Pennsylvania, and Western New York State that form the Niagara Frontier Regional Camera Clubs. New members and guests are always welcome.
