We use just antennas now. It works pretty well - unless the weather gets dicey. We'll get interference, but never completely lose signal
Prior to that, we had "lifeline" cable (major networks, WGN and a couple of freebies). It's not advertised; you have to ask for it. It was $10/mo. when we had it, but we got a $5 discount because we also had a cable modem w/Time Warner.
