Romantic place to stay in Lake Placid

Postby Des219 » Thu Jul 25, 2013 10:01 pm

Has anyone stayed in a romantic place in Lake Placid? I am looking for a place to celebrate our anniversary this August. Also, any nice restaurant recommendations. I see Whiteface Lodge looks nice but would be at the top of the price range and would not leave much or other things.

If you are budget minded like myself, I would recommend Wildwood. http://www.wildwoodmotel.com/index.html We got the suite for less than 150 a night. Fireplace, 2 person jacuzzi, California king sized bed, kitchenette, living space, and walk out porch over looking Mirror Lake. Very clean. Considering regular rooms at other hotels are upwards of 300...it was a steal of a deal imo. It was in March though, so not sure of price fluctuation for summer.

Hi Kyle, thank you for the great information. We will look into Wildwood. We were looking at High Peaks Resort http://www.highpeaksresort.com/ which is similarly located and it looks like rooms are from $190.

We ended up going with High Peaks. Hopefully we enjoy it. There is a spa there and we thought it would make for a romantic time.

Working on them :) but here is the first... this was on the hike to Lower Ausable lake. It is of a two tiered beaver pond.

On our anniversary day we hiked the Ausable Club grounds. We are not quite the hikers that others are. We both thought this hike was difficult but rewarding. For anyone that is interested in hiking here, and you are not a member, then here is a brief run down:

Ausable Rd makes a loop off of 73. The east connection of Ausable Rd and 73, across from the parking for Roaring Brook Falls, is the road you want to take. There are three dirt parking lots and a port-a-potty. Park there and walk 1/2 mile to Lake Rd. You will walk from there to the gate and gate house. Sign in at the log book.

We were planning on taking the trail out to Rainbow falls and walk back Lake Rd. We started on Ladies mile trail. Followed that until we hit a bridge where we could go straight or cross the river. We chose to go straight, which ended up being wrong. We later determined that we were following Gill Brook instead of Ausable and ended up back on Lake Rd. We stayed on the road until we got to the lake. The beaver pond was on the road close to the lake.

The lake is very picturesque and is a short walk from there across the damn to Rainbow Falls. We hiked back the East rim trail and stopped at Beaver Falls. We had a pedometer with us and tracked our total distance of 12 miles.

Here is a picture of Rainbow Falls... the exposure range was about 3.5 stops from the top to the bottom, making for a difficult picture.

The weird thing about that falls is the gorge goes straight ahead, but with no creek in it. The creek spills off the side wall.

A family member asked me about staying in LP, and I sent them this link.. they booked. Thanks for the info.
