I have started my next adventure “The Fire Tower Challenge”
This entitles a person to hike to all 5 fire towers in the Catskills and 18 of the 23 towers in the Adirondacks. There is more than 23 in the dacks but the book (challenge) only list the 23 that may be around the longest. Some towers are only steel frame work and unsafe to be on or in. You can find information about the challenge from here

Cathedtral Rock tower was moved from it's original position and rebuilt on the grounds of the Ranger Scool near Tupper Lake. It's now maintained by the Ranger School.

Wow...very nice view from up there. Can't wait to see the rest from the challenge.
To become truly immortal, a work of art must escape all human limits: logic and common sense will only interfere. But once these barriers are broken, it will enter the realms of childhood visions and dreams.

Looks like two more towers on Saturday Azure Mountain and St. Regis mountain, both are near Paul Smith's College. Weather looks good, not sure on snow depth but we'll be on snow shoes. Pictures and info to follow.

St Regis fire tower is now considered a non-conforming structure in the St. Regis canoe area it is likely to be removed soon. I believe the tower has a place in the history of the Adirondacks and should remain until deemed unsafe. At present you can not climb the tower as the bottom two sets of steps are removed. The view from the top is great with out climbing the tower. Due to strong winds (20 plus mph) and a temperature in the teens my stay on top was short and pictures were taken quickly. It’s a 6.8 mile round trip with an elevation change of 1266 feet.
