Please Help Preserve the Fitch Family Mausoleum
A Message from Marilyn Nolte, President of the Friends of Mount Hope Cemetery

On August 10, 2011 a tree felled in a severe summer storm heavily damaged the Fitch Family mausoleum. For the first time in the history of the Friends of Mount Hope Cemetery, we are making a public appeal for financial assistance, due to the urgent need to repair this Gothic Revival mausoleum.

October 6, 2011 - Henrietta Public Library

Time: 7:00pm - 8:30pm | Subject: Mount Hope Cemetery History
Thursday, October 6 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. After the victims of the cholera epidemics in the 1830's filled the remaining plots in the Buffalo St. burying ground, the City of Rochester established Mt. Hope Cemetery. But Mt. Hope was more than a graveyard. It served as an important cultural institution in 19th century Rochester, a 'must see' destination for visitors, and functioned as the city's first large-scale park. Dennis Carr will examine Mt. Hope as a museum of the region's heritage, a perfect back drop for the study of Rochester's history, architecture, and culture. The permanent residents of Mt. Hope Cemetery present surprising connections to major movements and events in the history of the United States. Limit 100. Registration required. 359-7092

With the arrival of fall, it's the perfect time to visit this beautiful place. If you haven't yet, be sure to check out NYFalls' extensive pages of photographs and history of the country's first municipal Victorian cemetery - Rochester's own Mount Hope.

Got a good one in mind?

Not necessarily a formal outing.....but I went to this last year and loved it. They are doing it on both the 22nd and the 25th.
