So Brenda if the canal would take a huge amount of excess water, which we so dearly need, why not open the gates?

Weirder yet. I just rode the canal. It is full(on what I rode) but only from Clover Street in Pittsford to Fairport. Must be for rowing teams who were out in full.

I don't know why they don't allow more flow into the stretch that is open. I was assuming that there weren't flooding problems in that area.

Restrictions down on lake

The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office lifted the restriction on motorized boats on Cayuga Lake Monday but maintained a no-wake zone within 1,000 feet of the shoreline. The lake remains elevated and debris present, according to the Sheriff's Office. The lake's level was 384.8 feet Monday, down about .1 of a foot from the past few days, according to the National Weather Service.
