I know that you city folk are pretty much accustomed to this sort of thing happening, but it never happens out here. My aunt and uncle owned this gas station/store for years. The couple who own it now are the third(?) to have purchased it since my uncle died. I guess that this happened right as the husband was opening yesterday morning. It's really unsettling. I feel terrible for them.

The same place that I always am on Sunday morning around 8:00--watching the oven timer.

The thing is that it doesn't seem random to me. The store is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, even though it is right on 96. I would think that it was someone from between the lakes, who at the very least passes by there on a regular basis. It sounds as if there was some confusion about the vehicle initially (SUV vs. pick-up), which could have been because the owner was so shaken and doesn't speak English all that clearly. The kicker is that, from what I understand, he and his wife ran a store in NYC for a number of years and never had a problem.
