At least in my neck of the woods (Seneca and Cayuga Wine Trails) there are only a few event weekends left. You pay a flat fee to participate in the event and then you pick up your "package" at a starting winery. However, many of the wineries now stay open year round, so you can do wine tours any time. There are several limo companies that specialize in wine tours if you want to get a group of friends together. It's a good way to safely tour and the drivers are very knowledgeable. I deal exclusively with Finger Lakes Limo & Coach: http://www.fingerlakeslimo.com/ A six hour wine tour (from pick up to drop off) in an 8 - 10 passenger stretch limo should run about $425 - $450, depending upon what limo company you choose. A van will run a bit less. I so wouldn't recommend a bus tour. There's nothing quite like being on a bus with a bunch of total strangers. Here are the wine trail links:
