It is a very sad day for me. I haven't been listening to the morning show for awhile now unless I'm out running errands (too distracting while trying to work in the office), but I always listened during my morning commute and I still try to catch the Sat. morning music show. I feel as if I've known him for years. I wonder what's next for him?

WCMF owner: Wease out, morning show headed in "different direction"

February 7, 2008 10:34 am — Officials from Entercom Rochester today announced that the company has discontinued contract negotiations with longtime radio personality Brother Wease.

And as of this morning, WCMF-FM (96.5) also pulled “Radio Free Wease” promotions from the popular morning show, station officials confirmed.

“We did our best to try and bring Wease back to WCMF but in the end, were not able to reach an agreement.,” Entercom Regional Vice President, Michael Doyle said today in a printed statement. “We understand that he intends to pursue other opportunities.”

As of today, the station’s morning show will be called “The Men’s Room.”

Entercom bought WCMF and WPXY-FM (97.9) from CBS Radio in December and terminated the contracts of five veteran DJs, including WCMF’s Dave Kane and WPXY’s Pete Kennedy.

Alan “Brother Wease” Levin, the host of WCMF’s popular morning-drive radio program, was taken off the air last month while he renegotiated a new contract.

In his absence, Wease’s morning crew, which includes Tom Mule and Sally Carpenter, broadcasted the show without him.

“Over the past month, we have heard very positive comments about the show we have been putting on the air,” Doyle said. “We are excited by the prospect of taking the show in a different direction with some new stars.”

Entercom did not say who specifically would be featured in the new morning show.

The station’s Web site, http://www.wcmf.com, once included information about Wease and his show but is now listed to be under construction. No information about “The Men’s Room” was available on the site.

However, the “Radio Free Wease” Web site, http://www.brotherwease.com, is still online and includes information about recent and upcoming guests.

Wease, who has been the show’s host for 23 years, declined to comment.

I listened to him a bit prior to high school (before Stern came to Rocket 95). I enjoyed the show and I do recall liking his voice. Every one used to have WEASE bumbers stickers but I have seen one in over 5 years. In fact until him getting canned... I didn't realize he was still in the business. How old is he?

It's pretty lame his staff went on without him.

He'll be 62 in Nov., so he may just retire, but I doubt it. He'd drive himself and his family crazy! I have listened to WCMF since high school as well, and I had WCMF bumper stickers on my first vehicle, an old '69 Dodge van (hippie that I was). It seems that he's been there longer than 23 years. Either way, he was always very open about what was going on his life (marriages, divorces, births, deaths, cancer...) so it feels as if I've "known" him longer. He has certainly led a colorful life and I'll miss his stories.
