A wonderful place for anyone who is open to something out of the ordinary. If you're someone to stick your nose up at things you don't recognize or understand, then stay away. I love trying new things so this is my kind of place. (I did have the same entree on both of my visits, but that's because I loved it so much!) Next time, I'll try another. Our server gave me a menu all marked up with her favorite dishes - and even some recommendations for special dishes not on the menu!

My first visit was on a quiet weekday evening and the service was very good and the food delicious. Seated immediately because arrival was prior to the traditional dinner hour. The place filled up by the time we left. It's a small place - about a dozen tables.

Second visit was around 6:45 on a Friday night and the wait for a table was about 10 minutes. At least 75% of the clientele was Asian, which sure seems like an excellent sign. Service was again very good and friendly - food was perfect. The servers are always willing to answer questions and make recommendations.

It is hard to find unless you know exactly where you are going. Check Google Maps.

Upon leaving, there were several parties waiting for tables. A very popular place, for sure.

I really enjoy Sodam and will return without hesitation.

Some snapshots from latest visit...

This is the place.

If you can't or won't use chopsticks - you will have to ask for a fork. Don't worry. They won't laugh at you. (But I will. ;) )

Every table gets this. If they give you a plate, which they didn't on visit #1, you are supposed to eat it while waiting for your main dish. What is it, you ask? Well, I'll tell you. Clockwise from the top left. Fish cake, seaweed with cucumber, spicy kimchi, soybean sprouts, cucumber kimchi, mungbean sprouts. I really liked the cucumber kimchi and both of the bean sprouts.

Barley tea. Everyone gets it. Drink up. They'll bring more.

White rice and chicken bulgogi - very spicy. Very terrific.

Overall a great time. Don't take your boring, non-adventurous friends. They don't serve chicken fingers and french fries.

Sodam Review from June 2012 - Democrat and Chronicle
It’s all about the food at Sodam Korean Restaurant. This unpretentious gem for great dining shares a building with Lori’s Natural Foods in the Genesee Valley Regional Market in Henrietta.

Owner Kim Ko presents authentic Korean cookery with no frills — no background music, no ornamentation and no alcohol (you may bring your own, though; just take your empties home). The food is the star of the show, the dishes approachable yet dynamic and intense, and all are made fresh to order.

We were greeted with banchan, six complimentary appetizers ranging from bean sprouts to fermented cabbage kimchi. There are hints of the sour and salty, and most finish with a kick of spice. It’s easy to see why kimchi is a staple in Korean kitchens. Naturally sweet boricha (barley tea) was also served....
