Neat capture, Americanhero - even if there isn't a waterfall in it. :)

Re: January Photo Challenge: Winter Waterfalls

My husband and I went to Lake Placid over Thanksgiving and just stumbled across High Falls Gorge on our way to see Whiteface Mountain. This is a waterfall I've heard others on this site mention but didn't realize where it was. When we couldn't go on the Whiteface gondola ride, due to wind, I suggested we stop at the High Falls Gorge on our way back to town. I convinced my husband to hang out at the little cafe/gift shop while I hiked into the gorge to take pictures. I can't say winter waterfalls are my cup of tea, but I knew I probably would get that way again. These are my favorites of the actual falls.

Great shots Angel, the 2nd one is my favorite.

Some great photos here. Chills me to bone.

I hope anyone shooting close to the edge will rope in. Even a simple line. You never know how stable the edge is with 2-3 feet of snow especially if packed (freeze/melt/freeze) by mist from the falls. david

Business Man's Falls, aka Wells Falls, aka Van Vatta's Cascade in Ithaca, NY. In a few months this will be crowded with students taking a dip or a picnic. But on this day I had the place to myself, and I was able to walk across the ice to get this angle of the falls.
