This is the old Champlain Canal, now a recreation area, in the village of Schuylerville. The canal lies between the Hudson River and the row of buildings that now line Routes 4 & 32.

At the end of the section above the path continues via a footbridge over Fish Creek. Below the bridge are the ruins of the center stone support for the aqueduct that carried the old Champlain Canal over the creek.

I found myself wondering if the barge was designed to just fit inside the lock. I think there was only about than six inches between the lock and the barge on either side.
