I hav been crossing that bridge since I was a kid and 50 years ago there was no standing water on it, you walk across a dry bridge, of course if a car goes by it sinks in a little, but then you hop up on the sides of the bridge. Driving over is easy and not all that dramatic, get on a raft in the pool even and guess what, water comes up on the raft and you still float. The barrels and very safe and if that bridge was not safe to cross, it would not be open, that is a state road.
