Post Processing... an example (wedding)

Postby Matt » Tue Jun 12, 2007 12:33 am

I spend as much time in post processing as I do in the field. I've become quite good at it. Here's an example of the type of work that goes into taking a mediocre shot into one suitable for framing.

Here's a wedding shot I did not take myself.

The original is pretty dull, taken into the sun and not framed correctly.
Image

So I expand and clean up the composition. I may as well fix the color and levels while I'm at it.
Image

The "photographer" was shooting into the sun, so we are looking at shadows... So I fill in the lighting.
Image

The lighting adjustment throws the colors off a tad, so I fix them again. Also the sky color is wrong.
Image

I remove contrast on the bride’s dress and wrinkles from the groom’s tux.
Image

I remove some distractions from the background and removed the glowing ears and highlights on the ears and hair (due to shooting into the sun).
Image

Add some clouds to the otherwise boring sky.
Image

Soften it up to make it look “dreamy.”

Excellent job Matt!

You probably made the bride very happy. This is when taking all that time in photoshop pays off.

I just gound this thread its interesting to see what other people do as a method of post editing.

I have just done a wedding actually and the bride specifically wanted some post editing work done ala fantasy ..... sooooooo

here's an example of what i did. Most of the wedding photos were pretty standard stuff but i did want to do some fun stuff for her.

oh and i dont use photoshop i use the gimp.

cute little flower girl ......

i thought the perfect piece for some post production fantasy makeover.

now i know its not everyone's cup of tea but i got paid well for the job and i learned a lot in the process ...

and the bride LOVED it....... and hey she was paying the bill.

:)

heres another one... i think children images really work well for this .....a candid shot that was not really frame worthy

the background is blanked out and i added some white spray

Image

a few stars and lighting effects......

this is what the bride wanted... and i am happy she got her fantasy pieces.....but yes i learned a lot in the process......

Walrus fantasy focus 66% would add nicely to those photos. It may be availible for GIMP
