I saw the Japanese press release for this last month and it was a lot different. They promoted a more cartoon effect.
I recognize the techniques they are using, it's pretty cheesy at high resolution.
It's noticeable no matter how you look at it.
I'm sure it's still going to be a hit with girls. I know at least of one who's eyes lit up when she heard about it.
There's an iPhone camera app that does something like this. It actually works very well considering its 99 cents.
I wonder if cameras can do this better... like a the same level of a professional. The techniques are relatively simple... i think the intelligence to draw a line for which not to cross is what a computer cannot do. How much to reduce wrinkles, how far to whiten teeth. One technique I use is to brighten the whites of the eyes and remove magenta/red, darken the pupils and enhance the catchlight. One thing I have learned is that how much to do this varies greatly from person to person... and if someone's eyes are too white, it looks so fake.
