Is anyone taking a trip to the falls this year?

Postby Matt » Wed Mar 18, 2009 10:57 am

I like to go once a year, just to see what has changed, especially on Clifton Hill. Now, I can concentrate on photographing new things for our Niagara Falls section. This year my goal is to find the 5 best spots to view the falls and take representative photos from each. I have to get either a passport or a enhanced license I guess.

Or just let someone who already has a passport smuggle you across in their trunk.

I am fearless, because I've been afraid.
I am wise, because I've been foolish.

my wife and i are going in a few weeks. someone told me one of the best places to view them is from the Hilton casino hotel on the Canadian side, is there any truth to that? if not any suggestions to get some really nice photos for a first time visitor/pro photographer?

I'm going to the Falls a couple of times throughout the year. It's only a 20 to 25 minute drive from Williamsville and I love the see the Falls from both sides and throughout the different seasons.
My favorite are the Falls in Winter. Barely anyone to see, hopefully some ice beside or below the Falls. It is absolutely beautiful.
The most impressive view of the American Falls I always have from the deck of the Observation Tower. Especially for night shots it is fantastic. If the tower is closed, erect your tripod next to the tower. I've done this several times in winter

I haven't done the falls in winter. I was going to do it last year, but I couldn't get a good weekend cold enough where there would be a good enough ice build-up. I'm going to definitely make it out there several times this winter, as I want to build a gallery and guide for visiting the falls in winter.

I went to the Falls again on Sunday, used my favorite spot on the northern end of Niagara Parkway for a view towards both Falls.
Never tried shooting with my 10-24 lens before. But I really loved the lens for this kind of shots :D

Excellent! I like how you used the moon to fill the sky, which is always a problem when photographing Niagara. I also like the sparkle the aperture of that lens put on it.
