If you haven't seen them, you definitely need to get out more! ;)

My windshield and bumper saw no less than 50 of them.
“There’s an inconsequentiality to our lives that living in the wilderness shows up. Mountain are real, they set their limits, they set ours. They expose us, make us vulnerable and strong at the same time. “

Bumper crop of butterflies visits Rochester
As insect plagues go, the butterfly invasion of 2012 has been a hit.

Thousands of the finger-length black and orange butterflies known as Red Admirals have descended on western and central New York in the past two weeks, decorating shrubbery, staining windshields and bringing butterfly lovers out in full flock.

“It’s more than I’ve ever seen,” said Carol Hinkelman of Greece, a member of the Rochester Butterfly Club. “They’re on the flowering trees, the flowering shrubs, the dandelions, the garlic mustard — anything that’s blooming, and sometimes just sitting in sunny spots.”

The butterflies were born this winter in south Texas and are following an established migration path through the Midwest and eastern United States to southern Canada, said Royce Bitzer, a researcher at Iowa State University who has been studying Red Admirals since 1976.

Pick up some butterfly whistles and mount them to your windshield.
